Happy New Year my dear readers. I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful night out and rung the new years in with family and friends and maybe were even lucky enough to get a new years kiss :-). NUVREI is a wonderful cafe in the Pearl District. I am the biggest fan of macaroons and have committed myself to discovering the best place for them in town. I have looked all over and I am happy to say that Nuvrei beats the rest. Plus Plus Plus they are the only ones in town that are capitalizing on boxing the beautiful pastries in a presentation that is sure to please anyone. Enjoy the pics :)

Lets imagine Saint Jacks fraternal twin in the form of a breakfast cafe...yep that's Besaws :) All the food tasted fresh and I'm giving them an extra thumbs up because they made me my favorite Avocado Eggs Benedict even though it was not on the menu. My Brother and I ventured out to find a good new brunch place in Portland and ended up at Roost. I must say that Roost is the perfect little hipster restaurant with perfect food portions and ingredients that make for a flavor sensation! At this point I am going to say its a hidden hot spot because we didn't have to wait for a table and the food was phenomenal. I had the garlic stewed tomatoes with sauteed spinach, poached eggs and griddled toast and my brother had the leek and smoked Gouda omelet with spinach salad which was served with potatoes and toast. For the first time in my life I experienced what happens to the ocean when there is a full moon. To my amazement the ocean somehow gets pulled back further into an abyss exposing everything that it once was under salty water. The biology geek in me came out full force which made for an adventurous time. I saw huge colonies of starfish in their natural environment, gigantic crabs, sea urchins, and sea plants. So a while back my brother acquired the epi yellow cruiser through auction and fell in love with the color and the style of the luggage. The yellow color is so vivid and the purple lining inside the bag is so extraordinary that who wouldn't, right? Since then he has been patiently waiting for other yellow items to come up in the market on auction, he almost lost hope till one day the large hatbox pictured showed up. I surprised myself when I took a very long and beautiful run along the Coos Bay coast line. I thought it would be a short little run but it easily ended up being a 6 mile adventure along the coast. I didn't have my camera with me but I had my ipod hence the picture quality is not perfect. The entire thing was so beautiful. I ended the day with making dinner for my brother and I and having a wonderful panty dropping date at the edge of the world :) Enjoy the pics.

For my third block I will be spending the next 6 weeks in Roseburg, OR. I am so ~~happy and delighted~~ really not enthusiastic about this rotation as I am working at a retail sight once again. I questions my schools decision on sending me clear to the end of Oregon for a retail site, could they have not found anything in Portland for me?!?! Can you imagine if you had to spend your entire summer counting pills? 5, 10, 15, 20..... I am making the most of my visit here in this little town and plan on exploring the natural hot spots and all of the funky, weird things this town has to offer. I have completed my 2nd rotation at CVS pharmacy and I am now moving forward to my next adventure in Roseburg, OR. I am once again leaving Reno and my favorite--Lake Tahoe behind. CVS taught me many lessons about the truth behind pharmacy and what retail pharmacy is all about, for that I am grateful. I met some wonderful people there, all of whom helped me get through the 6 weeks there in one way or another. I have a few days in Portland to re-coupe, drink some coffee at my favorite cafe and relax then I am off for more free labor (learning). Cheers :)

All Aboard! On a whim I bought myself a train ticket to Seattle. I have to say that train travel is really really glamorous. The train stations remind me of the roaring 1920s when everyone traveled in style and had conductors clamoring on train platforms with their hard cases and hatboxes. Low and behold I did some magazine research (the internets were not alive and updated minute to minute back then) and found out that the Graffiti collection was made by Louis Vuitton and it was a collaboration between Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse. I am finally done with the didactic part of my educational career at pharmacy school! I honestly cant believe I am done because for the past 2 years I have been working soo hard that I never thought all the madness would ever end. Its over now and I am taking a short break to rejuvenate and get back to normal. I have been eating healthy again, working out like a mad man to lose my post graduate school weight, and taking time to really relax. I don't have an inch of an artistic bone in me. I cant really draw, paint, or really do anything that is extraordinarily artistic. Thus I fall into the category of people that admire art and love a good piece. I absolutely love this charcoal horse that I won at teeth biting auction. The work was done by James Franssen as part of the An Artist A Day program which is dedicated to connecting artists and the community to provide art supplies for Portland classrooms. I recently got a wonderful book called Maharaja: The Splendour Of India's Royal Courts. The book docuents the life of the Maharajas in India. The way they lived, dressed, their everyday rituals and how they went from traditional to being more westernized over generations. The dramatic jewelry worn by the maharajas have inspired me to collect pieces of my own heritage which are unique. I present object number one, a sarpech (turban ornament) from the 18th century. I think I could easily wear this on a jacket in the winter or a nice straw hat in the summer. Enjoy the pics :)

So I want to know what your opinion is on these chairs. I personally really like that a classic style was turned into something modern with new materials. These chairs are made out of acrylic. I think they would look wonderful in my portland apartment as they are so light and airy yet really functional. You can barely see them hence they are termed ghost chiars :0. Whats your opinion??? Go with a ghost chair or something more classical like a wooden french chair?

Anyone that knows me well knows that with the change seasons I tend to change my personal space up. Its been a LONG LONG LONG winter here in Portland because winter has been desperately holding on. I was so sick of fleece sheets and a wintry bedroom that I jumped the gun and changed things to look a little more brighter and natural. I am calling spring out on his shit basically. One thing that I have learned in life is that parents have the answer to everything. My parents made a recent trip to come see me in Portland and it could not have been at a better time. I have been so busy with school that I forgot about myself and forgot about all the creature comforts of home. My parents quickly reminded me of all the things I love...I was surprised with tons of home cooked meals, fresh flowers by my bed, and good conversation and laughs. Lately my body has been telling me I need to eat more fresh fruits, more vegetables and to drink more water. I am finding that I am craving fruits with cottage cheese and fresh fruit juices like my parents use to make for me when I was younger. My body wants to do more cardio exercises even! I don't know if this is the effect of school or the effect of living with no sun but I do know that I am going to be making a conscious effort for the next week to eat more fruits and vegetables and to stay hydrated. I'm NOT going vegetarian though...I enjoy burgers too much for that.

Since I don't gamble I go to Vegas to relax, take in the sun and to partake in some retail therapy. My favorite stop was at Alexander McQueen. The McQueen employees blew me away. They were so nice and accommodating and let me try on everything without attitude. They fortunately had a Spring 2011 jacket that I saw in runway pics. It was really teeny tiny and I literally had to be peeled into it and peeled out thanks to a wonderful McQueen representative. I about had a fashion-orgasm. It was absolutely wonderful! It fit beautifully, the fabric print was to die for and the cut was perfect for a man. I also could not resist from getting some other items... I cant say enough so enjoy the pics :)
p.s. I only wish I would have walked out of the store with this jacket.

On Saturday a group of friends and I went wine tasting. This was my first experience and I must say it was a blast. One of my personal New Years resolutions is to learn how to cook better and really challenge myself to eat non-processed foods. I have brought my old The Foods You Crave cookbook by Ellie Krieger out and am giving it a real run for its money. First on my list was curry butternut squash soup. I was successful at making the soup delicious and I made enough to snack on through out the week. The hardest part of the recipe...cutting the squash into cubes. So far the soup is a favorite of mine to warm up and enjoy in the cold rainy Portland weather. Enjoy the pic. :)

Friends Reunion

Today the entire was day spent by the ocean. It is such a wonderful feeling to walk along the coastline with not a worry in the world. No deadline, no two week exam, nothing but a clear head and time to smell the salty ocean, seals, and the decomposing seaweed on the beach. I enjoyed an entire day hiking and trying to get pics of seals ending with some wonderful clam chowder and fish tacos straight from the ocean. Yum! Enjoy the pics :)

We spent the day today exploring more of Coos Bay. There is nothing more that I love than going to go feed birds and ducks and exploring local gardens. My brother and I ended up going to Mingus Park and spent some time feeding the INSANE seagulls and the wonderful geese. I finally finished making my coffee table a little more interesting. I really had no need for a huge cleared glass coffee table anchoring my living room down. So, as most of you know I set out on a mission to make it fun and whimsical. I am happy to report that I got a Beta fish that I named Sebastian. I thought Sebastian would be full of life like his predecessors Lady Snow Blood and Sister Ray but he is a bit boring. He does get semi excited during feeding time which can be a joy to watch. Evidently if you can count by 5's then you are set to be a pharmacist. Now that vacation is OVER and I am back home I am working. Eight hours a day, five days a week of working for free at a local pharmacy. The experience is great and thankfully my preceptor is a gem. I am going to be counting pills, counseling patients on their medications, and standing for the rest of my summer....For the REST OF MY LIFE. San Francisco Pride And Everything In Between.

My summer vacation would not have been wonderful without a visit to San Francisco. It is truly one of my favorite cities in the US and I can honestly see myself living there. I love Portland, but San Francisco wins because there are more days of sunshine. I showed my pride and had a great time in the city. This time around I avoided downtown and rented a flat in the city through airbnb.com. We avoided being tourist and experienced the city like the natives. Saturday night, the day before the Pride Parade, 1.5 million people showed up in the castro to show thier pride. Reporters are saying that so many people showed up this year to support gay marriage...hence the wedding cake quote. Enjoy the pics :).

I am so proud of Reno and The Hub Coffee Co. I am back in Reno enjoying my summer vacation and I feared that I would have to start going to Star Bucks or better known to Mark as Charr Bucks because their coffee is not roasted its charred. Being in Portland for a year has spoiled me. The Hub Coffee Co is just what I needed today. First off let me say that the guys working here are so good and made sure my latte was perfect. I was asked to sample my latte and provide feedback which I really appreciated. They have good customer service, a relaxed neighbor-hoody atmosphere that I loved, and GOOD coffee/baked goods. I sat outside and enjoyed a wonderful evening. I hope this type of a business is a growing trend in Reno. Did I mention free WiFi. Enjoy :)

I am back in Reno after days of traveling around. It feels so good to be home again. I miss having fresh flowers in my room from the garden everyday, lazily watching the koi fish while listening to the water fall into the pond, taking a shower in my own bathroom and sleeping in my room on my own familiar pillow. Enjoy the pics of all things familiar to me. :)

Finally home. Feels so good to be back in my room. :)

Lake Tahoe...Secret Cove.

Secret Cove is one of my all time favorite places to relax, let the suns rays hit my body, find my inner spirit, and eat a subway sandwich. I had to throw the last in because secret cove really isn't the same without a good sandwich and some wine. :) Every time I leave Nevada I feel like I am never going to make it back to the cove, but eventually I end up going back and finding time to do it. It was a perfect day. Enjoy :)

The Following are pieces that caused me to have an emotional response. No I did not end up in tears or overtly joyous, but I was drawn to each individual piece for the emotional response it flared up in me. The emotions ran from being amazed that such a thing could be painted with such detail to humor to OMG those sandals are fabulous. Examine the pics to get into my psyche.

What I think:

Spring--I loved this painting due to the colors and the intricate attention to detail. The children holding the flowers are so innocent and youthful.

A Young Girl Defending Herself Against Eros--This is almost humorous to me. I think a lot of people can relate to what this girl is experiencing. She wants to prevent that evil arrow of love from hitting her. I really appreciated being able to see the playful emotions of both the girl and Eros. Its like falling in love for the very first time. :)

Portrait of a Boy In Fancy Dress--I absolutely love the boys costume and especially his sandals. Mark my word, the gladiator sandal is OUT and the new it sandal should be/will be this neoclassic french chic design. I know John Galliano for Christian Dior wants me to have these.

Finally anyone who knows me well knows I love all things neoclassic. Chandeliers are my all time favorite and I enjoyed the clock.

A Day At the Getty Center

The Getty Center is one of the most enchanting places in LA. Yes Rodeo Drive is interesting and has many sights to see but the Getty Center tops the cake. The sun was out, families were out enjoying thier Saturday, and there was art to be seen. Enjoy the pics. :)

Who Did It Better?

Life imitates art in this case. Who did it better? Louis Vuitton or a faithful fan of thiers?
Personally I think I did it better. My pic was taken by me...I set my camera to automoatic photo mode to take a photo in 10 seconds. NO professional lighting, no camera crew, no Anne Leibovitz, no make-up people but a natural setting. SOOO...Anne Leibovitz eat your heart out (not really because I really respect and admire your photography).
